Conversation with the somewhat sullen and quiet antepartum nurse I shadowed a couple weeks ago--my assignment changed and I was switched over to labor and delivery--so I went to report off to her:

Me, after explaining I was reassigned:
Thanks for showing me the way you organize your patients and letting me follow you around this morning. I really have appreciated your time.

Nurse without facial expression:
Did I have a choice?

Me:
Um, no, I guess not?

Nurse: *shrugs her shoulders and continues charting as I go on my merry way*
