On to nursing...

Well, I am turning a corner and am getting ready to start the next phase of my nurse-transformation: my career in Labor and Delivery.

Got my letter from the hospital and have to undergo another physical that consists of TB test, lifting and pulling analysis, physical, etc. Fun stuff. Last time I had to put on a non-rebreather, a hazmat helmet and repeat a poem about leprechans while marching in place. Laughed my way through that one!

Hospital Orientation begins on the 21st of January from 0730-1630 daily for that week. Then I move on to nursing orientation? One of my best nursing school friends started as a GN (graduate nurse) THE DAY AFTER PINNING! Yeah, she was freaked out. She called me Tuesday night and said she was studying. She had 30 new drugs to memorize thoroughly for a med calc test she took yesterday. The funny thing is that out of all the other new employees, the other 5 being long-time RN's, she was the only one that passed the test! So we GN's are pretty smart cookies! ;) Oh, and we are used to studying our butts off. I felt bad that she didnt even have one day off between graduating and being a real-live nurse.

Anyway, she is now in the ED working and we are planning a study weekend for the NCLEX. Looks like we are going to get a cheap hotel room for two nights, bring all our NCLEX book, notes, ATI tests and notes and go through each section. Should be fun.

Ok, off to watch a movie with the family and eat some brownies. Tehe. So much for the diet!

Hi! I've been reading your blog and wanted to wish you luck on the NCLEX. I didn't know graduates could start working without having passed the NCLEX. That's interesting.
Happy Holidays!

I thought the pharm test was a big booger. I'd missed all I could with 20 more questions to go, so I was sweating bullets, but I did it. SO glad I didn't have to retake since you can't pass meds without it. NCLEX on Jan 3, and you KNOW you'll all hear about it!
