code blue

worked my first code last night. did 3 sets of compressions alternating with some big firemen. lost the patient, but got her pulse back a couple times while i was working her (combo of compressions, meds, etc.). afterwards, one of the firemen approached me and said, "those were GREAT compressions--she didnt know what hit her!" yeah, BCLS is a must. you will probably use it sometime. can't believe i knew what to do.

score:
one bad stick
one successfulful foley cath on a male (yeah-first guy!)
first code blue
learned how to do a 12-lead EKG
one pressure bandage applied
lots of monitor hook-ups and floor transports
lots of fun playing with the tube system
lots of O2 set ups
lots of stocking, paperwork and phone answering.

bits of advice:
downing flaming shots will give you 1st degree facial burns
football players are dumb (ok, i am biased--have a family of footballers and they hurt themselves so often that the ED was their best friend--spent lots of time there growing up waiting for someone to get stitches, splinted, CT'd, etc)
frequent flyers make for good stories during the 4AM lull
when paperwork goes missing, the ED is not ALWAYS to blame!
hemophiliacs should not ride motorcycles

currently: arms hurt. need more sleep. adrenaline is weird!
