Clinical fun...

Have my final evaluation for clinical on Thursday and want to get my instructor a little pressy. Think this will do? Will give it to her AFTER so she doesn't think I am bribing her!!

Had one of those clinical days where there wasn't much to do so had to nose my way into fellow student's stuff or be bored (they don't like it when I do that-tehe).

Picked up another c-section and was really up close for the breech delivery (bottoms up!) of an almost 9 pound baby through a low transverse incision. The baby was pooping all over herself as the docs tried to wedge her out of the uterus. Too funny. What a lot of pulling, though! OUCH!

What was really neat was that the attending physician in the OR was a teacher-type personality and was teaching me all sorts of things (somewhat over my head but still very understandable and sooooo interesting). There was a little less of that separation between "the gods" (the docs) and man (me). Hardy-har.

Which brings me to a little rant: What is with Grey's Anatomy and the derogatory stance on nurses that the show seems to take? I am going through the season 2 DVD's and just can't believe it in some cases? I have not seen those kinds of attitudes displayed by interns, attendings or residents in real life...It disturbs me because I wonder if pop culture influences the beliefs of those outside the medical field and makes them think nurses are just around to clean bedpans and sleep with docs in the supply room?? Do people really think that? Some Grey's writer seemingly DOES if they are putting that kind of garbage in the show.

Love the show anyway. *SIGH*

So back to clinical--got a (perfectly sterile!) cath into a pre-op patient, talked to some interesting L&D patients while they were in triage, and gave lots of oral meds. Also hung some rocephin on an IV, so that was kinda nifty. Then waited forever for my section (scheduled at 10, did it at 12). My legs and feet actually hurt today, which is a first. No adrenaline?
