Navy Blue

I've been buying navy blue scrubs because all the RNs at my new hospital only wear navy--had a friend who works on the floor (I'll call her Bella) call me today and she told me a couple interesting things:

1.) Our hospital DOES NOT have the new GN's take a med calc test and

2.) I shouldnt buy many new scrubs because as a L&D nurse I will be wearing OR scrubs because I will likely have to pop in and out of c-section and changing my scrubs is a waste of time. Most of the nurses just wear sweats to work and then change into green scrubs. (Just found out that my hospital has the lowest c-section rate and highest VBAC rate in my state. Good news!)

So, I have 3 sets of navy scrubs and obviously am stopping there. *sigh* Will have to use my gift cards from Christmas towards socks and accessories. Am so relieved about the medication test! She also advised me to schedule my NCLEX as soon a I get my ATT and told me there isnt much I can study for. She told me to just know my lab values, look over some pathos we didnt cover in school, review some pharm basics and otherwise just relax. I'd like to get NCLEX over with by the end of January.

The other thing she told me is that I after I do my 2 wks on mother/baby I'll get a choice to stay over there instead of L&D. Hm. I definitely want L&D over M/B and hope I dont end up with a position I wasnt hired for...M/B is kinda boring, if I remember right from clinicals.

I am so glad I did my clinical rotation at the hospital I'm working in as a new GN. I actually feel pretty comfy with the floor layout and such. Bella says the floor works great as team and everyone gets along really well. I hope I fit in!

Welcome to the wonderful world of OB! PS - I agree with you - choose L&D. Postpartum is b-o-r-i-n-g!!!
